There are places around Louisville that have seemingly been around forever and may have you asking, “Is that still there?” Just outside of town in Prospect, sits a hidden gem that has been around for more than 25 years and is, indeed, still there. Henry’s Ark may have changed over the years but this wildlife refuge and park remains a family-friendly place where animals are lovingly shared and cared for and it is anxiously awaiting your visit.
Editor’s Note: Unfortunately, since the time of publication, Henry’s Ark has since closed.
A visit to Henry's Ark has been a Louisville area tradition for a number of years and families continue to visit this one of a kind park today.
Serving as an animal refuge, the property is currently run by two full-time employees and volunteers who are working hard to maintain this loving home for a variety of animals.

The types of animals at the refuge have changed over the years and they no longer have a zebra, camel, and other exotic favorites. But there are still plenty of reasons to make the trip.
Regulations have made it tricky for the refuge to run the way it used to, so you can no longer feed the animals. But the property is so unique and unlike a typical zoo that you're sure to appreciate the environment and closeness you can experience with the various animals.

You'll still see a little bit of everything at this wildlife park and refuge.
You can explore the property where bison, llamas, doe, goats, water buffalo, pigs, emus, ducks, chickens, peacocks, and other animals roam. It's truly a unique place and one that very much benefits from your attention and visit.
Henry's Ark aims to continue to provide a home for animals in need while opening its land for everyone to enjoy.
They need your help, though. It is free to visit the property, but donations are warmly received. Anything helps and they are appreciative of the support to keep this Louisville area up and running. Henry's Ark is open Tuesday —Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If it's been awhile, go ahead and pay them a visit!
