Looking to try something new and exciting? The Louisville Mega Cavern provides one of the most exhilarating zipline courses in the country! Although it can be terrifying at first, you’ll begin to love the feeling of zipping through the cool cavern air. Mega Zips is one of the most unique places you can find in America, as it’s the only fully underground zip lines and adventure tour in the world. If you’re in Louisville and have never visited Mega Zips, you’re in for a wild experience.
The Louisville Mega Cavern started off as Louisville Crushed Stone.
This huge limestone mining quarry began in the 1930s and ended in the 1970s. The mine provided jobs for those struggling during the Great Depression and was a wonderful asset to the city. Today, Mega Cavern has multiple purposes. It's a storage facility, zip-line and ropes course, a BMX track, and more. It actually expands beneath all 10 lanes of the Watterson Expressway and is the largest building in Kentucky!
Here's the entrance to this incredible cavern.
Be prepared for a few things before you enter. First, your cell phone will not get reception within the cavern, so be sure to send any important last texts or calls before you go in. Secondly, the cavern maintains a steady 58-degree temperature year-round, which can get chilly when you're flying through the air. Dress accordingly!
Once all of the paperwork and safety precautions are over, you're ready to zip!
Ziplining can seem terrifying to someone who has never done it before, but Mega Zips will assure that you're properly buckled into your harness and ready for action. A trip to the Mega Cavern is fun for all ages, as you can see above.
You can race your friend on this dual zipline!
Imagine the air whipping at your face and the adrenaline running through your body as you race to the finish line on this dual zipline. If you look down you'll see by the colored lights that the cavern floor is a very far drop.
Mega Zips is home to the "Zipline to Hell."
This area will give you the creeps just in time for Halloween. The sign above reads, "if you're reading this then you are blissfully unaware of what is behind you". You'll drop deep into the cavern lit with fiery colors. It's one of the most interesting and unique zipline courses in the country!
In addition to ziplining, Mega Cavern also offers a BMX Track...
The temperature is ideal for sports, making it the perfect place to build an underground bike track. There are over 45 trails, and at 320,000-square feet, it's the largest indoor bike track in the world!
A ropes course...
Mega Quest is the ONLY fully underground aerial ropes challenge course in the world. The lighting and atmosphere will make you feel like you're in a movie! For a good workout and even more adrenaline pumping fun, check out this ropes course at your visit too.
And the world's only fully underground drive through Christmas light show! The Mega Cavern loves breaking records. This Christmas lights display follows 17 miles of lights in the comfort of your own vehicle. It lasts about a half-hour, and it's a spectacular display of holiday cheer during the most wonderful time of the year.
