Although our sunlight hours are sadly growing shorter with each passing day, the upside is that we can view the sunset sooner every day too. Sunsets in Louisville are gorgeous, and there are numerous places to enjoy the warm colors cast over our city. Check out our list of a few stunning spots to watch the sun set.
1. The walking bridge
What better place is there to watch the sunset than the walking bridge? You have an amazing view of the Ohio River, and when the sun finally sets the bridge will light up brilliantly. It's one of the best locations for an evening jog or romantic stroll.
2. The Belle of Louisville
A ride on the Belle is about the only sight that can top viewing the sunset over the Ohio River. Being on the waters on a cool evening and watching the sun cast such amazing colors over the river is just breathtaking. Taking a ride on the Belle isn't something that the you would do frequently, but it makes for an incredibly memorable night when you're able.
3. Kentucky Kingdom
Spend an evening of thrills at Kentucky Kingdom before the season ends! Be sure to ride the Ferris Wheel for the best views of the sky.
4. The Falls of the Ohio
The Falls of the Ohio is just a gorgeous sight at any point of the day, but it's beauty is doubled when the sun begins to set! Take a seat on these fossil beds and watch rushing water currents beneath the sunset.
5. Waterfront Park
Don't miss the last Waterfront Wednesday of the season, which occurs on the last Wednesday of September. Here you can find good food, beer, and music as you watch the sun set over the Ohio River.
6. The Rivue
Check out on of the most amazing restaurants in the city, which even has a rotating room to give you the best views of Louisville. There are a few downtown buildings that offer great views of the sunset and city, but none other offers an incredible 360-degree view as you dine.
7. Iroquois Park Overlook
This may not be a photo of a sunset on the overlook in Iroquois park, I assure you that both the sunrise and sunset look incredible at these heights. Just make sure to be careful on your way back down in the dark!
8. Crescent Hill Reservoir
The Crescent Hill Reservoir Park is an underrated place in the city. It's such a beautiful spot to visit, especially in the evening when the sun is beginning to set. It's the perfect place to go for a relaxing walk!
