These eight cemeteries in Louisville are rumored to be haunted, so be prepared to see some orbs, ghostly figures, or possibly even hear voices of lost souls. This Cave Hill Cemetery is a 296-acre Victorian era National Cemetery and arboretum and is the largest cemetery by area and number of burials in Louisville. It is filled with many stone and bronze statues on graves, which may be one of the reasons so many people get spooked by this cemetery.
Many claim that green orbs can be seen floating in the cemetery at night, and there is an old tale that there is a mysterious woman who appears, tending to the children in this cemetery.
The Burke Family cemetery is hidden right in the middle of a parking lot in St. Matthews, directly outside of Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Hobby Lobby. You might pass this cemetery many times before realizing it is there, as the perimeter is covered with thick bushes and the entrance is left unmarked. Some believe this cemetery is haunted because the surrounding area was developed into a parking lot for a shopping center, rather than being left in its original state.
Western Cemetery was the second public cemetery in Louisville, and has a few graves of some of the pioneers of our city. Now abandoned, this cemetery is said to glow with orbs late into the night.
This small family cemetery is surrounded by brick walls and an iron gate. The graves belong to James Brown and a few of his family members, whose heirs created Brown Park in St. Matthews. The cemetery is connected to the park. Many people claim to hear voices when alone in this secluded cemetery.
Mary Miller, one of the first female steamboat captains, is a notable woman who was buried here in 1894. Perhaps it is her spirit who wonders here, wishing to continue her travels that were cut short by illness. Either way, many people see glimpses here of a figure-- who it really is, we may never know.
This cemetery is known for its strange happenings. People have heard voices and seen orbs and figures. It is speculated that Eastern Cemetery is among the most haunted in all of Kentucky due to the amount of graves that were piled atop one another. It contains 16,000 graves, but has documentation that 136,000 people are buried here.
This cemetery is very well kept and doesn't have too much of a reputation of being haunted, but a few have reported seeing orbs floating on the location.
This cemetery has many graves dating back to 1811, when it was first founded. It has moved locations twice, leading many to believe that some spirits could not rest peacefully because of this.
