The Belle of Louisville is the oldest operating steamboat in the United States, and the oldest operating Mississippi River-style steamboat in the world. You can take beautiful cruises on the boat today.
3. Our Water Tower Is a Historic Landmark
The water tower near the riverfront is the oldest ornamental water tower in the world. Because it was completed in 1866, Louisville did not experience the cholera epidemic of 1873. The tower is decorated with Greek and Roman gods.
4. We Have Awesome Hot Air Balloon Activities During Derby
The Bluegrass Balloon Festival, formerly called the Adam Matthews Balloon Festival, was the fifth largest hot air balloon festival in the United States, and the largest in the state of Kentucky. It was discontinued in 2009. Now, we still hold the Great Balloon Race.

"Happy Birthday To You" was originally a song by sisters Patty and Mildred J Hill called "Good Morning To You," and the sisters were from Louisville.

Louisville is named after King Louis XVI, who aided us during the Revolutionary War. He eventually was beheaded, and was the only king of France to ever be executed.

Thunder Over Louisville is the largest annual fireworks display in North America. The event happens every year during the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Old Louisville is the largest historic Victorian preservation district in the United States, which makes for an amazing sight when you walk in this neighborhood.
