Fall color is taking its sweet time this year and hopefully the best days are still ahead to enjoy the vibrancy of the season. We are lucky in Louisville that there are so many naturally beautiful places where we can go to escape, recharge and take in the cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage. If you are looking for the best places in the area to witness the change in seasons, then we have the perfect list for you. This dreamy road trip will show you the best our area has to offer, and you can see it all in one perfect fall day.
To begin your epic fall foliage road trip around Louisville, head south just a bit to Bardstown.
This beautiful small town is even more idyllic on a colorful fall day and a visit to My Old Kentucky Home is a must. Aside from Christmas time, fall is the best season to view this stately, historic home.
From Bardstown, you'll head back toward Lousiville with a stop at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.
We are incredibly lucky to have Bernheim so close, as it is one of the most beautiful places in the state. When fall foliage is at its peak, this stop is a no-brainer. Be sure to walk out to the overlook, pictured above, for sweeping views that are unforgettable.

You could easily spend an entire day (or several days) at the next destination.
The Parklands of Floyds Fork is made up of four individual parks that are all connected and they each have their own unique features and beauty. If you have the time, walk or bike along the path that connects them or really just seek out any spot for a quiet, beautiful recharge.
You'll enjoy some of the best views of Louisville from the park and there are plenty of colorful areas to explore. And of course, you'll already be set to go with Iroquois Park's infamous Jack O'Lantern Spectacular which would be the perfect way to end a fulfilling day of fall color around Louisville.
There’s nothing quite like fall in Kentucky. Are you eager for more colorful foliage this season? Any other places we should check out in the next couple of weeks? Let us know in the comments!
