As the weather starts cooling off for Autumn and we’re able to step outside without sweating, walking around the city will be far more enjoyable. Louisville has many amazing streets across the city that are a blast to explore, filled with local shops, restaurants, and bars that you need to check out. 1. Bardstown Road
If you're not from Louisville, you may not have heard that Bardstown Road is a fun place to walk around and eat, drink, and shop. The Highlands neighborhood is where these local businesses are concentrated. Shop around at a few cute shops, such as Acorn or Hey Tiger, grab some drinks at Chill Bar or Time and Space, and choose from one of the many amazing restaurants along one of the best roads to walk on in Louisville.
2. Frankfort Avenue
Frankfort Avenue in St. Matthews is another great street to wander on, with plenty of interesting shops and restaurants to check out. Just Creations is a non-profit fair trade store on Frankfort Avenue that showcases handmade items from over 45 countries throughout Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. It's a great place to find unique gifts and there are also some great restaurants to try along the way; The Silver Dollar and The Irish Rover are just two of the fun options.
3. East Market Street
This street is rapidly gaining popularity as NuLu (East Market District) is improving and gaining business. Just a few of the amazing places to check out along the street: Joe Ley Antiques, Please & Thank You, Grind Burger, Garage Bar, and Climb NuLu.
4. Goss Avenue
This Germantown street is a bit quieter than others on this list, but it does have a few great places to check out. Grab some delicious New York-style pizza at The Post, or sample a local brew at Four Pegs.
5. St. James Court
Enjoy the incredible Victorian architecture on a walk through Saint James Court, which is filled with tall, magnificent mansions topped with towering spires. Guided tours of the Conrad-Caldwell house are available, and there are often other special events going on at this cool historical home. Simply strolling through this street to admire the houses and elegant fountain is fun, and you'll find Central Park right across the street if you want to continue your walk.
6. Main Street
There are countless activities to do along this downtown street in Louisville. Both East and West Main Street have an array of restaurants, bars, and other businesses to explore. West Main Street is where a majority of the city's museums are located, including the Slugger, Frazier History Museum, KMAC, 21c, and the Kentucky Science Center. It's the perfect place to explore and you're guaranteed to find something to do!
7. Fourth Street Live!
Fourth Street Live is a 350,000-square-foot entertainment complex and event venue with many bars and restaurants to visit. Fourth Street runs through it, and it's a super fun place to walk around, especially at night when the lights come on the bars are bustling with business.
8. East Oak Street
East Oak Street is another fun, quieter street to check out on a sunny day. On your walk, you should definitely step into Scarlet's Bakery, YesterNook Antiques, Fat Rabbit Consignment Shop, and Kaiju Bar. These small local shops have a unique selection of items that you'll love to browse through.
