This Cathedral In Louisville Is Incredibly Unique
Louisville has a number of beautiful, historic churches spanning across the city. Today we’ll take a look at the interior of Cathedral of the Assumption, which has a stunning amount of detail and intricacy in its design. Characterized by large glass windows and a tall traditional spire, this Cathedral is a stunning building in our city. The cathedral is located at Cathedral of the Assumption is located at 433 S 5th St. # 101, Louisville, KY 40202.

Although the parish was founded in 1805, this building wasn't completed until 1852. Bishop Flaget decided in 1849 that a new cathedral should be built, but sadly passed away a year later. Another bishop completed the project for him, and the beautiful cathedral still stands to this day.

From the tall, colorful ceilings to the large columns and rich red seats within the Nave, this church is amazing to walk through. It seems that every inch of this Cathedral has an interesting detail to admire.

The deep blue color and golden specks are meant to replicate the night sky. It is a common design motif in many Cathedrals across the world.

Although it may be difficult to make out here, if you zoom in you can see that the Virgin Mary is being crowned as the Queen of Heaven. This window is one of the oldest American-made stained glass windows in the country.

Here you can see the Baptistry. The practice of baptism is a very important practice in the church, as seen by this pools design and placement.

Every detail in this cathedral seems to be made with reverence. The cross stands tall right beside the altar.

Unlike most of the cathedral, this pipe organ was added much later in 1983.

Instead, it has individual, movable chairs. On the back of each chair is a kneeler.

The beautiful altar is made of marble on the bottom and has a granite surface.
Of course, there are so many beautiful churches in Louisville that it’s practically impossible to name only one as the most beautiful, but I really love the interior of this cathedral!
