This Road Trip To The Most Majestic Castles Around Louisville Is Like Something From A Fairytale

You may not think of castles when you think of Louisville or Kentucky, but it turns out that the area around our city is home to a few of these majestic hidden gems. Some are in plain sight, while others are tucked away in a beautiful park, but they are all magical and worth a visit. This road trip will take you from Louisville to four castles that will surely be one of the most unique excursions you can take in Kentucky. The map below shows the four stops on the trip, but feel free to customize your own map here, if you want to change up the order.
First, head west to a hidden gem just outside of Henderson, Kentucky. John James Audubon State Park is award-winning for its beautiful museum inside this majestic castle-like building. There is also a nature center inside and don't forget to explore the beautiful grounds of this treasured state park.

2. The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (1402 Saint James Ct. Louisville, Kentucky 40208)
Next, drive back toward town to the heart of Old Louisville. The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum towers like a castle in this historic, Victorian neighborhood. It has been lovingly restored as if the Caldwell family was still living there as they did around 1908. Join in for one of the scheduled tours and be amazed at the fine craftsmanship of this majestic home.
3. Yew Dell Botanical Gardens (6220 Old Lagrange Rd. Crestwood, Kentucky 40014)
Just outside of Louisville, at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens, you'll find a small castle tucked away in a lush garden. This internationally-recognized nonprofit center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You'll want to explore all of the unique and vibrant plants and flowers on the grounds, but you absolutely must see the castle. It was originally built as a pool house for Yew Dell’s original owner, Theodore Klein, but you can now rent space in it for meetings or special occasions.
