If you're ever passing through Lexington, be sure to check out Boone Creek Creamery. This creamery offers a super fun and educational tour that your family will love, in addition to selling amazing artisan cheeses and other Kentucky Proud products.
Ed Puterbaugh is a former microbiologist who decided to pursue a more creative career in cheese-making. Ed has a great understanding of the cultures that create different varieties, and he uses this knowledge to bring his customers some of the highest quality cheese around the city.

Ed uses high-quality milk with no artificial hormones or antibiotics.
The milk used in his cheese is from a Mennonite farm right here in Kentucky called JD Country Milk. The cows on this farm are all grass-fed and no antibiotics or hormones are used on these animals. This delicious milk, in turn, creates delicious cheese.
Each cheese will be slightly different, depending on who is making the cheese. This is because the cheese here is not made using mechanical or industrial methods. Ed tries to keep it as traditional as possible, and the quality of his cheese definitely shines through when you take a bite of it.
In addition to the more normal cheese varieties that you would find at the grocery, Boone Creek Creamery offers interesting flavors like bleu cheese and ginger, cheddar and shredded jerky, and many more. You can also sign up for a cheese-of-the-month club and surprise yourself with two different types of cheese delivered to your door, or purchase the membership as a gift that keeps giving all year long!
Keep in mind that since Boone Creek Creamery is so close to Louisville, they frequently sell their cheese around our city too. Check their products out at the Mellwood Art Fair on September 9th and 10th at the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center, located at 1860 Mellwood Ave., Louisville, KY 40206.
Your family will love taking a tour through Boone Creek Creamery!
You'll get to sample cheese and view the careful process of cheese-making that Ed Puterbaugh follows every day. Employees will teach you how to make your own cheese and help you understand how this delicious dairy product is made. This can be a very fun introduction for children about how science plays a role in everyday life!
