Many locals throughout Kentucky have their favorite diner or restaurant that feels like home. These special eateries serve up homemade meals in an atmosphere that is friendly and welcoming. And while many of these establishments would call themselves the best diner in Kentucky, only a few have won that actual title by a local publication or ranking list. Spare-Time in Alexandria was a popular diner that was once named the best and has had its ups and downs over the years. Things are looking up for this diner now as it has a new life as Lou Lou’s Cafe at Spare-Time, and it’s now as scrumptious as it’s ever been.
Spare-Time has been a fixture in the Alexandria dining scene since the 1950s.
It's had a number of different owners and has opened and closed a time or two over the years, but a few years ago it was named the best diner in Kentucky by the site Purewow. We definitely have to agree that it's one of the best and it is now living a new and scrumptious life as Lou Lou's Cafe at Spare-Time.
One of the best things about this diner is its nostalgic exterior and atmosphere.
Thankfully, those have not changed and Lou Lou's also continues on with the tradition of serving up delicious, homemade food with a friendly atmosphere.

Right now the cafe is open for carryout, local delivery, and outdoor dining only, due to its very small interior.
But guests have raved about their dining experiences, even if it involves picking up hot meals and enjoying them at home. If the weather is nice, definitely consider trying the new outdoor patio.
Portions are very generous and they serve up all of the classics. If you want to try breakfast at the cafe, give them a call on Sundays to order. Lunch and dinner are available Tuesday through Saturday and you can see all of the hours and menu details on Lou Lou's website.
You'll also want to follow along with the restaurant on Facebook, linked below, to stay up-to-date on any specials, like their mouthwatering cinnamon rolls.
They also have dinner specials that are comfort food at their finest. There are surprising options like slow-roasted prime rib, as well as other classics and new favorites.
Carryout lunch at Lou Lou's Cafe is always a great idea and you can choose from a number of sandwiches, burgers, and salads.
And of course, keep an eye on the diner's social media and website to see when things will be open for indoor dining. This eatery has supported the community in many ways and a great way to show appreciation is to try their scrumptious food.
The homemade cakes and other sweet treats are some of the best in the area and perfectly round out any meal here, even if it happens to be breakfast.
Lou Lou’s is already a favorite in the community and it’s nice to see this iconic spot live on as a scrumptious restaurant. We would still consider it the best diner in Kentucky in many ways, so stop by Lou Lou’s Cafe for a meal, a bit of diner nostalgia, and friendly service. Have you dined at Spare-Time or had carryout?
