I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
The Bluegrass State is a nature lover’s paradise, with some of the most sublime and scenic hikes in the country. Many of these jaw-dropping trails can be found in the Daniel Boone National Forest and Red River Gorge, a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Within this wild and wonderful expanse, there’s a loop trail that’s perfect for a short day hike, and its scenic beauty changes with the arrival of each season. We’re talking, of course, about the Auxier Ridge Trail, one of the very best hikes in all of Kentucky.
Located within the Daniel Boone National Forest and Red River Gorge, the Auxier Ridge Trail is one of the most beautiful hikes in the state... no matter what time of year you tackle it!
Along this trail, expect to see the exquisite, grand rock formations for which the Bluegrass is well known. As you near the top of Auxier Ridge, some of these formations let you peek out into the hills and valleys, like Mother Nature's very own picture frames!
This loop trail follows a meandering path along the ridge line that will truly take your breath away. Of course, you'll want to exercise extreme caution as the cliff drops off on both sides.
But the views form the top? They're worth it, no matter when you decide to hike this trail. Red River Gorge is known for its amazing autumnal colors, and this trail is immensely scenic in the height of fall foliage.
If you've never seen this area covered in glittering frost and snow, you're in for a real treat! (If you're hiking after a snowfall, be sure to take your time and use extra caution on this trail.)
Kentucky is so lovely any time of the year -- and many call this trail the most beautiful in the Bluegrass State. So what are you waiting for? Get out and enjoy our lovely landscape!
Have you hiked the Auxier Ridge Trail before? This hike truly is remarkable all year-round, and we highly recommend enjoying this hike in every season!
