We love uncovering unique destinations and things to do around Kentucky that many don’t even realize can be found in our state. A perfect example is that most people don’t think of the Bluegrass State as a place with any beaches, however, we actually offer some great ones (and we previously featured them here). Sure, it’s not the ocean, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sink your toes in a sandy shore in Kentucky. One place where you can do just that is found in an unexpected spot in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Carr Creek State Park not only offers a lovely beach and swimming area, but it’s also the longest beach in the Kentucky State Park system and is one you’ll want to check out soon.
Carr Creek State Park is located in Eastern Kentucky, not far from the town of Hazard.
It's a unique park in that its marsh environment is unusual for the landscape of the mountains in the area, but that just makes it even more interesting.
The most enticing part is its long, sandy beach along on the shores of Carr Creek Lake.
The beach is the longest within the Kentucky State Parks system and is ideal for a hot, summer day. During your visit, you can sink your toes in the sand, swim in the lake, and take in the stunning natural beauty that surrounds you.

There's plenty of room to spread out and take advantage of the shoreline and roped-off swimming area.
For your day at the beach, you'll want to be sure to pack the essentials, along with a picnic lunch that you can enjoy along the water. There are restrooms nearby, as well as a playground and volleyball courts for even more fun in the sun.
The marina rents fishing and pontoon boats which are perfect for exploring the 710-acre lake.
If you want to extend your stay, the 39-site campground is one of the best in southeastern Kentucky and offers great access to all of the park's amenities.
With a picturesque lake and the surrounding mountains, Carr Creek State Park offers a unique landscape in Kentucky, a wonderful campground, and, of course, a long beach that's ideal for ultimate relaxation in Kentucky.
Carr Creek State Park is located at 2086 Smithboro Rd., Hwy. 15, Sassafras, KY 41759. For more information, visit the park’s website here.
