I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
When we talk about the holidays in Kentucky, it’s a total sensory experience. There’s a crispness to the air and vivid, crunchy foliage. There’s the warmth of fire pits and aromas of fresh-baked treats. Cinnamon, pumpkin spice, ginger, cloves… the smells of fall are the best seasonal candle. Especially when these aromas are accompanied by the delicious array of fresh-baked treats… in particular, pie. Pumpkin pie and pecan pie, in all their cinnamon-spiced sweetness, are an inextricable part of the holiday equation that we wait all year to enjoy. And in Kentucky, folks RAVE about the seasonal pies at Hadorn’s Bakery.
Hadorn’s Bakery is a beloved little shop in Bardstown that’s been dishing up tasty treats for decades. A long-standing institution in the Bluegrass State, Hadorn's was founded in 1935, and moved to its location in Bardstown in 1977.
Family owned and operated since the beginning, there's an old-fashioned vibe to this charming bakery that you just don't find much anymore... and some downright delicious desserts you won't find anywhere, either!
This adorable little bakery is known for their cookies, which range from classic sugar cookies to seasonal favorites. These sugar-sprinkle cookies are Christmas in a bite, and folks wait all year for their arrival behind the bakery counter!
However, this Bardstown bakery is perhaps best-known for pies, boasting everything from chocolate cream and cherry to apple and pumpkin. Our advice? Order a round of pies for your Thanksgiving festivities -- and do it ASAP! These pies are a hot commodity during the holidays, and you'll want to reserve yours well in advance.
There are so many wonderful ways to celebrate the holidays in Kentucky, but visiting Hadorn's Bakery for their seasonal treats is easily the most delightfully delicious!
