Many historic figures have ties to the Bluegrass State and perhaps the most well known and significant is Abraham Lincoln. Our 16th President was born in Kentucky and spend his first years in our state. You can visit sites that remember and honor Lincoln’s life and they can be found around the town of Hodgenville. In downtown Hodgenville, the Lincoln Museum was recently named the best museum in Kentucky, so if you haven’t visited, you may want to add it to your list.
Most Kentuckians are aware that our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, was born in Kentucky in 1809.
He was born near the town of Hodgenville and spent his younger years growing up on a farm in Kentucky. While his original birthplace cabin was destroyed long ago, you can still visit the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, as well as the Lincoln Museum, which happens to be in the center of downtown Hodgenville.
This museum is fascinating both inside and out and was recently named the best museum in Kentucky by the readers of Kentucky Living Magazine.

Hodgenville is proud of its ties to Abraham Lincoln and this shows in the museum.
There are several artifacts and other displays that take you back to the 1800s in Kentucky. Visitors are impressed with the depth and variety in the collection.
The multiple floors offer a look at civil war memorabilia, as well as a collection of original Lincoln art. There is also a funeral train exhibit and much more.
Be sure to spend time in the center of town, right across from the museum, where you'll find two statues of Lincoln and more information on his ties to Kentucky.
