There are many chain restaurants in Kentucky, some that have locations all around the world, and others that are more regional. While these often offer convenience and consistency in food, most are lacking when it comes to local flair and commitment. But that cannot be said for the popular taco joint, Taco Tico. You can find these taco eateries in a few states, including Kentucky, but the Lexington restaurant, in particular, is legendary and you’ve probably been enjoying it since childhood.
Taco Tico actually began in the 1960s in Wichita, Kansas, but it didn't take long for the deliciousness to make its way to Kentucky. Many locals remember chowing down on the tacos and other flavorful options that are still around today.
If Taco Tico has been a longrunning favorite of yours, then you may recognize this Lexington location from 1979. There are now only two Taco Ticos left in the Bluegrass State, one in a new Lexington location, and one in Louisville.
The Taco Tico in Lexington is especially loved for its original flavors and local, community feel. If you dined at Taco Tico in the 70s and 80s, you'll recognize the same great taste and friendly atmosphere from those previous decades.
This is no ordinary fast food Mexican restaurant, as the menu offers much more than tacos. But if you have yet to try them, you should begin a visit to Taco Tico with one of their classic, crispy beef tacos.
And then from there, the options are endless. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, quesadillas, chalupas, and more are all on the menu. Pair them up with beans, rice, and chips and guacamole, and you have a true Mexican feast.
Especially for those who have dined at Taco Tico for years, there are some standouts that you must try. The Taco Burger is a unique and favorite choice, and is basically a taco on a bun.
To prove its loyalty to Kentucky and its happy customers, round out your Taco Tico meal with an Ale-8. Other states may share the love for these tacos, but Taco Tico has a special place in the hearts of many Kentuckians.
For a restaurant to earn a legendary status, it must withstand the test of time, and often earn the business of patrons time and time again. Taco Tico has managed to do that with great taste, a menu packed with flavor, and a local Kentucky vibe that many have enjoyed since childhood.
Taco Tico is indeed, all about the taste, but it’s also about creating a community atmosphere for a loyal following that’s been enjoying this taco joint since childhood.
