It’s a beautiful sight to see and a gathering that’s likely the largest of its kind in our state.
For 38 years, Light Up Louisville has been a tradition for Kentucky's largest city. Thousands gather on the day after Thanksgiving to welcome in the holiday season, and it all begins with the arrival of a massive Christmas tree.
This year's tree has already been placed and is anxiously awaiting its time to shine during the Light Up Louisville event and the weeks to follow. The tree is decorated with countless colorful lights that will soon illuminate this beautiful spot in Louisville.
When the lights do finally come on, it is quite the scene. Jefferson Square Park turns into a magical winter wonderland leading up to Christmas and the day of Light Up Louisville is always one for the books.
The event will be held the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 23rd. Activities and live music begin at 4 p.m. at the corner of 6th and Jefferson Streets, and the Lots of Lights Parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m. You don't want to miss it!
After the parade and the arrival of Santa, all of the attention turns to the tree as the Mayor and the big guy in red flip the switch and light it up. The moment is filled with fireworks, cheers, and enough festive spirit for the entire season.
The crowds are always huge at Light Up Louisville because everyone knows it's such a fun and magical event. After the lighting of the tree, you can also check out the Santa House for a free picture with Santa.
In addition to the event on the 23rd, downtown Louisville is a festive place to visit anytime during the holidays. Ice skate and stroll through Holiday in the City, and then check out the gigantic tree and its million lights.
