When summer begins in Kentucky, you’ll find every type of festival imaginable. However, there is one coming to Kentucky Speedway in June that is especially gorgeous – Lantern Fest. This nationwide phenomenon arrives in Sparta on June 24th and it is the can’t miss Kentucky event of the summer.
If you're looking for one unforgettable experience in Kentucky this summer, make plans now to head to Lantern Fest at The Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. On June 24th, thousands will come together for an evening of fun and then will collectively light up the sky with glowing lanterns.
According to history, lanterns were meant to symbolize good fortune, hope for good weather or to celebrate the life of a loved one. Whether you choose to focus on one of those or you have another hope or dream to release, the Lantern Fest is an ideal spot to do it. Each person will have a lantern, on which you can write a message, a memory, your dreams - whatever you like. As the sky darkens, you'll light your lantern and "let go" while you watch it float into the darkness, while surrounded by other shining stars.
The festival begins late afternoon and the celebration begins right away. You're encouraged to get there with enough time to set up around one of the fire pits, enjoy the live music, dancing and festivities. There are plenty of options for food and of course there is plenty of smore-making.
But the pinnacle of the event happens as everyone lights their lanterns and sends them into the sky. Imagine the most magnificent, heavenly sight as thousands of gleaming lights float through the summer sky. It's as magical as it sounds.
This year's Lantern Fest in Kentucky takes place on June 24th and will surely be an unforgettable night. Gates open at 4pm and they recommend you bring chairs and/or a blanket for sitting.
