Kentucky may not be home to true oceanfront beaches and crashing waves, but we certainly have our fair share of lakes. You can live the lake life all over the Bluegrass State and enjoy everything from speeding through a massive lake to quietly fishing in a smaller body of water. Lake Malone is a beautiful lake in Kentucky that falls somewhere in the middle. As a state park, it’s a great place to visit and with smaller crowds could even be considered underrated. Enjoy water, sun, and sand at this summertime destination in Kentucky.
Lake Malone State Park is an underrated destination in Kentucky that is about an hour west of Bowling Green.
Lake Malone State Park offers a boat ramp, as well as a gas pump at the boat dock. The lake is also ideal for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding; you just have to bring your own.
Tall sandstone bluffs rise out of the water and line the edge of the lake. With beautiful water and natural surroundings, true relaxation can be found on Lake Malone.
As a smaller lake, you'll find a calm atmosphere here and hopefully some peace and quiet.
If you'd like to try fishing at the park, but don't have the equipment, check in when you're there and see if you can take advantage of their fishing loaner program to borrow equipment for free.
One of the most popular features of Lake Malone is its sandy beach.
This spot will make you feel like you're on vacation and has restrooms and showers available. Keep in mind that as of June 2020, the beach is not yet open due to Covid-19. Check the park's website, linked below, for any updates.
Lake Malone also offers a campground with both electric and primitive sites.
More information on camping is also available on the park's website. There are 34 primitive sites, as well as 25 sites with electric and water to accommodate an RV.
As a beautiful lake in Kentucky, Lake Malone is a lovely respite from everyday life. Stop by for a waterfront picnic, a relaxing hike, camping, or even take your boat out on the water. If you’re looking for a quieter spot that still has a lot to offer, check out Lake Malone State Park. Have you been to this beautiful summertime destination in the Bluegrass?
