I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
It’s no secret that the people of Kentucky are an interesting type of folk. There are plenty reasons to visit the Bluegrass State, and the residents themselves should be ranked among them. There are good and bad people everywhere, but southerners are a unique, friendly sort.
Here are 10 reasons people from the Bluegrass State are great people:
People in other parts of the country pride themselves on developing artificial personalities to fit in. You'll find a lot less of that in Kentucky. Maybe the abundance of trees has put more nutrients in the air we breathe, but there are a lot more "genuine" people than fakers here.
The world is filled with individuals that are more fake than real thanks to plastic surgery. In the Bluegrass, there is a lot less of that. There are still people who have plastic surgery, but in most cases, we just age gracefully.
There are some places across the US where everywhere you go, people are more concerned with themselves than with others. Here in the Bluegrass, most residents have genuine good hearts, and actually care about other people.
When a Bluegrass farmer gets in a good crop, it's a celebration. Family, friends, and neighbors all end up getting fresh fruits and vegetables to enjoy for dinner.
There is no better food than traditional southern cooking. Biscuits, gravy, eggs, country fried steak, real mashed potatoes with homemade gravy all can become addictive. I’m not saying this is healthy cooking, but it is delicious.
In many rural towns, people will still pull over on the side of the road to allow a funeral procession to pass. Some of the elders will remove their hats in honor of the deceased. I’ve noticed this happens in a few other southern states as well. Neighbors also still make meals for the families in need, or have community gatherings where fresh baked goods and such are available.
I don’t mean crafty as in sneaky, I mean crafty as in creating home made goods and art. Artisans in the Bluegrass create with love and usually a little influence from the state.
Everyone in this state has a little bit of country in their heart. I’m not talking about music, but instead a love of nature, forests, and the land.
When you live in the Bluegrass State, a bit of it is guaranteed to live in you too. Our communities tend to care about one another, and lend a helping hand when possible. We are a proud southern people, but not too proud to care about the important things in life. Kentucky just got lucky. Our state has an abundance of good people.
