I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Kentucky is a place that takes a lot of pride in its history, with each town proudly preserving its old storefronts and main streets. In Stearns, Kentucky, this local pride is evident at Jewell Kidd’s Grocery & Deli, a grocery that’s nearly a century old! When you step inside Jewell Kidd’s Grocery, you have the unique opportunity to shop at one of Kentucky’s oldest stores.
Stearns is a proud little Kentucky town that's home to the Big South Fork Scenic Railway, the Blue Heron Interpretive Center, McCreary Country Museum, Barthell Coal Camp, and some of the Daniel Boone National Forest.
It has a population of 1,416 with lots of scenic beauty and friendly people. All this loveliness is jam-packed into four square miles of pure Bluegrass heart and soul.
Built in 1930, stepping inside this grocery store really feels like going back in time. Original store decor, black-and-white photographs, and artifacts line the shelves.
In its nearly 100 year history, Jewell Kidd has served many different functions, and proudly displays artifacts from its previous lives, like this physician's daily record book.
Come and shop inside a piece of living history. Grab a Moon Pie, order a bologna sandwich from the deli, and make yourself at home on the front porch of this Stearns institution.
