There seem to be historical sites everywhere you turn in Kentucky. You can be walking down a road in Louisville and come across a historical marker or on a hike in the woods and pass the remnants of a home built generations ago. If you know anything about Kentucky history then hopefully you know that Abraham Lincoln was born in the Bluegrass State. There are many dedicated areas where you can learn about Lincoln’s early life in our state and one place is the Lincoln Homestead State Park. Located in Springfield, this is really an underrated park in Kentucky that not only has historic sites and learning opportunities, but also a beautiful 18-hole golf course, fishing, picnicking, and more.
Lincoln Homestead State Park is located in Springfield, not far from many other historic sites in the area. If you're a history buff, you could easily spend a weekend exploring the history of this region of Kentucky.
The park is open all year long for exploring, but the museum is only open Memorial Day through Labor Day. If you want the full experience of the park, it's best to visit during the summer.
This land features the original home of Abraham Lincoln's mother, as well as replicas of buildings from the 1700s where Lincoln's father spent time learning his trade. Each building has descriptions and interesting facts so you can learn all about the life of the Lincoln's.
You can also visit the home of Mordecai Lincoln, a favorite uncle of Abraham Lincoln. The preservation of some of these original buildings and artifacts is incredible.
