We love Kentucky’s local restaurants, and many of them have unique features such as riverfront locations, the inclusion of longtime family recipes, or their dedication to pleasing loyal customers. It’s not often, however, that you find a restaurant that can claim all three of these attributes. In the lovely town of Maysville, Caproni’s is a beloved dining destination that definitely has a slew of longtime customers. It sits right on the river and along an active train track. They serve up time-honored recipes and have been around, in some capacity, for almost 100 years. If you have yet to try this riverfront gem in Kentucky, it’s about time to check it out.
In the 1930s, Caproni's opened up as a sandwich shop for those working and riding on the adjacent railroad. The restaurant is still in the same location and continues to thrive today.
Owned by the Caproni family until 1990, Cap's (as it is often called) is now a favorite local dining spot for delicious steaks, Italian family-recipe dishes, and the unmatched views of the Ohio River and the trains that zoom by.

In the '60s, the restaurant was remodeled to add windows along the side of the building that faces the river.
The views are incredible both inside and out. Maysville is known as a river town and has many ties to the Ohio. Caproni's capitalizes on its location with memorable seating both in the dining room and outdoors on its delightful patio.
You will not leave Caproni's hungry, as there is something on the menu for everyone and the portions are generous. If it's your first visit, the steaks and pastas are definitely must-tries.
Caproni's has welcomed a number of celebrities and politicians over the years (the Clooney family are big fans), but perhaps their favorite guests are those who call Maysville home or are simply visiting this lovely town.
Maysville makes for a great little getaway in Kentucky with plenty of history, small town charm, and great dining options. If you decide to visit, be sure to add Cap's to your list. The restaurant is open Monday - Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday & Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Caproni's is closed on Sundays.
