Despite the fact that so many read books and magazines on some sort of electronic device these days, there is still something completely charming about walking into a bookstore. A space that’s filled to the brim with words that people have thoughtfully put together and then shared with the world is simply magical. Hopefully the concept of a real, hold-it-in-your-hands book will never die and we are so thankful that places like Glover’s Bookery in Lexington are keeping this dream alive. This large bookstore is jam packed with literature and hidden gems and walking through the doors is like something from a dream.
Glover's Bookery in Lexington has been buying and selling books since 1978. The shop's collection is housed inside an old Victorian house, which is the perfect location for a book store filled with stories and history.
This epic collection is made up of mostly used books, some of which are rare and highly sought after. As members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the only professional antiquarian booksellers associations, Glover's is proud to be able to provide the community with this impressive collection. And it's easy to tell their love of books, as they line the shelves, walls, and stairwells within the bookstore.
Glover's Bookery also started selling books online in 1998, in addition to their brick and mortar store. Their website, linked below, is easy to navigate and a great place to begin your search for a specific title or series.
As a large house with 6 rooms, there are several spots throughout the bookstore in which to sneak away with a good book. Browsing through Glover's is always time well spent, as you never know what you'll discover. And if you happen to be looking for a specific rare title, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and would be happy to try and track it down for you.
For 40 years, Glover's Bookery has specialized in rare and used books and their enchanting store is basically a museum of their findings and collection. And thankfully, it's a museum you can visit and even take an artifact home with you, that may be just what you're looking for.
Glover's Bookery is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10am to 6pm. The next time you want to get your nose in a good book, or simply surround yourself with the written word in a historic space, pay this incredible bookstore a visit.
