No matter what state or country you happen to be in, you will find a place where bad things occur. It can be a location where accidents, deaths, disasters, and any variety of disturbances impact the community. These troubled vortexes may have multiple occurrences or just one or two horrific incidents within a certain area. The Bluegrass State is not exempt from this curse. Here are 12 of the most potentially troubled spots in Kentucky:

This is also known as New Circle Road and runs around Lexington. HP Elkins

This highway is also known as the Mountain Parkway and passes though the western point of Winchester till Salyersville. At that point it evolves into US 460 passing through Magoffin, Wolf, Morgan, Clark and Powell counties. This stretch of road runs from I-65 to US 60. You would be surprised at the amount of accidents that occur despite its shorter length. That is, unless you happen to frequent the road and get stuck in the traffic jams. Tabor Andrew Brown

This expressway runs through Louisville through Lexington and Ashland. It passes in parts of Fayette, Scott, Jefferson, Shelby, Franklin, Woodford, Rowan, Bath, Boyd, and Clark counties. There is at least one accident each week within the Jefferson County borders of this highway.

GCP Grey

This travels north to south from Williamsburg, Lexington and Covington. It passes through Whitley, Madison, Fayette, Grant, Kenton and Rockcastle. There are different spots all along this long stretch of road where tragic accidents happen, and not one particular spot. There have been many cases of drowning at the variety of Kentucky Lakes. The waters of Kentucky are all incredibly beautiful and serene spots, but can be dangerous when experienced with carelessness. Safety will prevent accidents in most cases. There were more than 548 fatalities in Kentucky waters in 2014, and more than 3,500 non-fatal accidents.

This is the biggest city in Kentucky and according to the Kentucky State Police, it has the highest ratio of traffic accidents within its borders in the state. What is referred to as Spaghetti Junction along the Ohio River is the scene of frequent accidents, as several expressways entwine and circle around one another at the edge of downtown.

Once again, this is the biggest city. It is not just noted for its accident rate, but also the amount of crime and shootings. During 2015, at one point during the year Louisville had a 50% increase in shootings from the previous year. The overall increase in shootings and violent crimes from the preceding year ended up being around 47% according to WAVE3 and the Louisville Courier Journal, and that doesn’t include the latest heroin epidemic.
