It’s always interesting to see how buildings change over the years, as our historic cities evolve. Louisville’s Whiskey Row has certainly been around for awhile, but only recently has it become a “hot spot” for restaurants, hotels, distilleries, and more. On the back side of this popular area of town you’ll find The Hall on Washington St. This German beer hall offers up authentic German fare, an impressive drink menu, and what may just be the longest bar in Kentucky.
The Hall on Washington St. is, as expected, located on Washington Street in Louisville.
You can find it by looking for the bright orange door that welcomes you into this historic building. Originally built in the 1870s, this space has housed a pork packer, a blue jean manufacturer, and of course a distillery. The structure has been transformed and given a new life as a German beer hall along Whiskey Row.
You will likely be surprised when you step through that door and into the restaurant, which calls itself a gastropub.
You can feel the history of the place, but the furnishings are modern and sleek. And the 65-foot-long bar is definitely a centerpiece. The center section of the bar is shown in the photo above.

The restaurant is designed to be welcoming and comfortable and is the ideal spot for a meal and a drink before an event. Meet up with a large group, or grab a seat at what sure seems to be the longest bar in Kentucky.
The menu is filled with German-inspired comfort food, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, and more. Be sure to ask about any specials, because they are always a hit.
If you love German food, there are several options for you on the menu.
The sausages and meats were carefully selected and you can taste the freshness. Choose from many "wurst" options that will be far from the worst meal you've ever had.
There is also a lounge area within the restaurant that now has a shuffleboard, perfect for those laid back evenings out.
Stop by for appetizers and drinks and relax on the couches. Their Shareable Snacks are perfect for this and of course they all pair well with a stein of beer or your other favorite beverage of choice.
The atmosphere of a German beer hall is meant to be inviting, lively, and laid back, and that's what you'll find at The Hall on Washington St.
With a bar that goes on forever and ever and a tasty menu, this is one hidden gem restaurant in Kentucky that's worth a try.
