Peculiar things happen in the state of Kentucky all of the time, and we don’t always have an explanation for them. Perhaps you drive past an interesting roadside attraction like this one here, or you do a double take when you see a restaurant like this. Recently, if you were anywhere near the Ohio River, you may have seen something rather unusual passing by. A floating city made its way through Kentucky, on its way to Covington, and many likely are wondering the story behind this odd sighting in the Bluegrass State.
Over the past few weeks, a peculiar sight could be spotted on the Ohio River as a large barge carrying a unique structure made its way along the water.
This floating city was once the home of an Argosy Casino in Sioux City, Iowa, but it was purchased by a Kentucky-based company. This colorful building started the trek from Illinois to the Bluegrass State and has been the source of a few turned heads and tales over the last several days.

The Kentucky company that purchased this floating city is BB Riverboats, which is based in Newport in Northern Kentucky.
The beautiful, nostalgic riverboats are docked right across from the eye-catching Cincinnati skyline and the current building includes offices and an event space. However, that is the space that will transition into the new structure, which is now undergoing renovation nearby in Covington.
BB Riverboats hopes to give this unique space a new life, right on the riverfront of Kentucky. For it to get there, it traveled 700 miles, including a trip right through Louisville!
It was in this area that many were able to catch a glimpse of the floating city, and photos started to circulate as everyone wondered where this barge was headed. These photos of the barge were captured by Donnie Yeoman and you can check out more of his work here.
BB Riverboats has long been a popular Kentucky destination for unique and memorable excursions and now they are eager to add to their repertoire.
It'll take six months and around $2 million, but this floating city will eventually become the company's offices and an event space that will allow for unmatched views of Cincinnati and the river. If you have wondered about this odd barge that made its way through Kentucky, wonder no more - and be sure to check back in with BB Riverboats in a few months to see how this floating city evolved!
