Fall is a beautiful time of year to get outside and explore Kentucky. The forests and trails within them become a rainbow of color and the cooler air makes an entire day outside appealing and comfortable. Kentucky’s many waterfalls are beloved natural features of our state and hiking to them is a pastime every Kentuckian should do at least once. This fall, consider checking out one of the most stunning of all of the falls – Flat Lick Falls, just outside of McKee. The area around the falls is idyllic in autumn and you’ll love discovering this enchanting waterfall in the Bluegrass State.

The falls, once only accessible by finding your way through the woods, is now easily viewed by all with a short, paved path that leads to a viewing area.
The .4-mile hike is easy and family-friendly, but that doesn't mean you won't experience any adventure.

If you venture just off the paved trail, you'll experience amazing rock formations and varying landscapes. There are hidden caves, rock overhangs and little creeks that make their way near the trail.

But it's the falls themselves that are the highlight of this area.

You can view them from afar from the designated area on the trail, or many choose to hike down to the base for an incredible perspective. Just be sure and exercise caution, as it can get slippery, some of the rocks above the falls have openings and crevices and the flow of the water can be intense after heavy rainfall.
In the summer, many like to enjoy the cool water of the pool in front of the falls, as well as the view from behind.

In the fall, the magic comes from the falls splashing down, as colorful leaves fall to the ground and the creek below.
