I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
There are all sorts of ways to celebrate Christmas in Kentucky, from glittering light displays to dazzling town festivals. One of our favorite holiday activities, however, is an old-fashioned Christmas market. We’re talking about the holiday markets that take over the cobblestone streets of Paris and London; seasonal events offering everything from homemade wares and decor to gingerbread cookies and mulled wines. But guess what? If you’re looking for a heaping dose of Christmas cheer and *not* able to hop across the pond, there is a European-style Christmas market in Kentucky that will satisfy this wish list item.
There's nothing that quite compares to a holiday market. The sights and smells, the sounds and spirit... these events are pure Christmas cheer!
While many think you have to travel across the Atlantic to enjoy a good, old-fashioned European-style Christmas market, there's an event here in Kentucky that we think is just as swell.
Welcome to the Christmas Market at Michler’s! This romantic Christmas market is set within a blooming greenhouse on E. Maxwell Street in Lexington, Kentucky.
This Christmas market happens just one weekend each season; for 2022, the market runs Dec. 3 and 4. Free parking is available at 446 East High Street, with limited parking also available at the greenhouse.
There are also plenty of goodies to snack on while you shop, from fresh-from-the-oven cookies and Christmas pastries to next-level paninis made with delicious French Comté cheese.
What's even better, is that this Christmas market invites guests to come and watch Kentucky makers and artists in action. It's delightful to watch the florists craft beautiful wreaths and decorate boxwoods, and then be able to take one home. What a memento!
When you need to rest your legs, sit and sip a mulled wine, local cider, or a hot toddy while listening to live music at the market -- local musicians will be playing at the market both days, which creates a festive vibe that's positively palpable.
As with so many holiday happenings, Michler's Christmas Market is about so much more than the event itself. It's about slowing down and savoring the season; making traditions and treasuring experiences.
Have you been to the Christmas Market at Michler’s before? If so, we’d love to hear about your experiences at this cheerful Christmas market in Kentucky!
