On a hot summer day, or really any time of year for that matter, there’s nothing better than a scoop of creamy ice cream. If you’re a fan of this favorite dessert (and who isn’t?), head to the source and the ultimate spot in Kentucky for a sweet treat. Chaney’s Ice Cream has a buffet of flavors, made right there on their farm and it’s everything you ever wanted.
Since 1888, the Chaney family has been in the farming business. In 1940, the family turned it into a dairy farm with the purchase of two Jersey cows. The prized cows delivered when it came to delicious milk, but the family needed to change things up to remain profitable.
In 2003, the Chaney's entered the ice cream business and they've never looked back. They serve their buffet of flavors from Chaney's Dairy Barn and it's repeatedly been called the best ice cream in Kentucky.
The ice cream is made right on the farm and you can taste the difference. Of course the cream is fresh, but so are the other ingredients used to mix up the wide variety of flavors.
Their seasonal flavors are some of their best, including this Mint Julep recipe in honor of the Kentucky Derby. Other favorites include Banana, Big Red Rumble, Cookie Moonster and Cow Tracks. You can enjoy your ice cream on a cone, in a dish, tucked in a waffle cone or as a sundae with your favorite toppings.
Chaney's also serves up many other mouthwatering desserts, including this favorite, the Mini Moo Pie. They also have a full menu for lunch and dinner and their food is almost as well known as their ice cream. They serve sandwiches, burgers, salads and soups, but be sure to leave room for dessert!
Chaney's Dairy Barn has really expanded into a destination, not just an ice cream shop. You can take a self-guided tour during business hours, so you can see first hand how they run their farm. They also have a free playground for the kids to run off the sugar-high they are sure to get from all of the ice cream. Check out their events throughout the year, including Ice Cream & a Moovie, held weekends in the summer.
Chaney's is a family-run farm that strives to bring quality ice cream and a good time to its visitors. Whether you're local and can visit often or you stop by as you pass through Bowling Green, you'll likely be back to sample more from their ice cream buffet. To help with your planning, Chaney's is open Monday - Thursday 11am - 8pm, Friday - Saturday 11am - 9pm and Sunday 12pm - 8pm.
Enjoying an ice cream cone, while overlooking Kentucky’s stunning landscape, makes for a picture perfect summer day. Have you experienced this at Chaney’s? Did you have a favorite flavor?
