Our culinary scene in Kentuckyhas grown by leaps and bounds over the last several years, with eclectic and creative menus popping up all over the state. It’s no longer just barbecue and bourbon, although we’re mighty proud of both! If you want to try something wonderful and a bit different, La Bodeguita De Mima is an enchanting Cuban-themed cafe in Kentucky that belongs on your bucket list.
Fernando and Yaniel “Mima” Martinez survived an arduous journey from Cuba to make a life for themselves in America and found a home in Kentucky, and we’re lucky to have them. You won’t find Cuban food like this anywhere else in the state!
When you walk in, you’ll be surrounded by vibrant colors and beautiful decorations that are a loving dedication to Cuban culture. There are two levels including patio seating, a stylish bar, and a comfy cigar lounge.
The food is as authentic as it gets, with a vast menu that will make you want to return again and again to try it all. Appetizers like these Papas Rellenas will certainly whet your appetite. These crispy breaded potato balls stuffed with a savory picadillo and served with pico and an aioli of roasted red pepper and sour cream are addictive!
The entrees are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the tongue. Pescado Crujiente is plantain-crusted mahi-mahi with cilantro aioli and a tomato-avocado salad with a lime vinaigrette. Yellow rice and sweet plantains accompany it perfectly.
This Vaca Frita is hearty and so flavorful. The braised shredded short rib is sauteed with bell peppers, onions, and Cuban mojo. There are many other beef, pork, and seafood dishes with flavors as lively as a Cuban rumba.
With so many tantalizing options, you will be awash in a sea of flavors. The entire experience is a concert for the senses. Next time you’re in Louisville, don’t miss this place!
