Red River Gorge is an area that may seem intimidating, but it’s actually a region of Kentucky that everyone can enjoy. We recently shared some ideas for a Red River Gorge Road Trip, but if you need more hiking trails to explore during your visit, you’re going to want to add this easy loop to your list. The Rock Bridge Trail takes you along a creek, through the beautiful gorge, to a large natural arch and bridge, and also to a scenic waterfall. This easy loop trail in Kentucky has a little bit of everything and is perfect for exploring and a little outdoor adventure.
Located within Kentucky's incredible Red River Gorge, the Rock Bridge Trail is named for its natural bridge feature, but there's so much more to it than that.
If you set out on the loop trail moving clockwise, you begin the hike by descending into the woods to a scenic creek. Be sure to check out the rich vegetation, rock formations, and peaceful waters along the way.

Most of the trail follows along this creek and is wonderfully shaded on those hot summer days.
When the weather conditions have cooperated, this lovely waterfall has a decent flow to it, and the large pool it cascades into definitely makes it one of the most picturesque in the state.
You can get an idea of the size by comparing it to the person standing on top in the photo above. You are allowed to make your way to the top of the bridge, just be sure to exercise caution (as with any hike or outdoor adventure).
The trail then loops back around and takes you up and out of the gorge. Of course, you can always choose to go back the way you came to experience the waterfall once more!
No matter which direction you choose, the Rock Bridge Trail is a great spot for families and anyone looking to experience the unique natural beauty of Red River Gorge.
Red River Gorge has so many trails – some more challenging than others – but this simple loop hike is sure to please everyone who seeks a little natural beauty and adventure. To reach the Rock Bridge Trailhead, follow these directions: Take I-64 East to Winchester, then Mountain Parkway East to Slade (Exit 33). Take 15 East or South down to Pine Ridge, make a left on 715, and you’ll see a little log cabin ranger station with a sign that marks the gravel road to the trailhead.
