But there are also plenty of things and places in the Bluegrass State that will make your heart race thanks to a creepy tale or experience. These dangerous and terrifying things in Kentucky involve a spooky past, ghost stories, or even adrenaline-pumping excitement. While the idea of going underground in the longest cave system in the world can be terrifying on its own, Mammoth Cave has other creepy features. It was once used as a tuberculosis hospital and as you might expect, it's filled with ghostly tales.
Red River Gorge is one of the most popular destinations in Kentucky, but it's also one of the most dangerous. The incredible hiking trails here are arguably the best in the state, but many can be extremely dangerous. Don't avoid this area, but when you do visit, be cautious, especially along trails with a cliffside drop off.

The Ohio River makes up a border of Kentucky, so it's a major destination and attraction in our state. However, it also tops many lists of the most polluted river in the country.
