I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. I have lived elsewhere twice, but keep coming back. I'm a video editor and freelance writer who enjoys watching people wearing University of Louisville uniforms excel at sports, scaling the faces of large rocks, and hanging out with my border collie/laborador/cattle dog mutt thingy that I have.

To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Sometimes it’s nice to get snowed in. You have an excuse to not leave your house, and you can spend all day wrapped in blankets instead of venturing out into the cold. However, that can get old after a while, and cabin fever kicks in. Instead of buzzing all over your house as an antsy, irritable mess, try visiting one of these places in Kentucky to cure your cabin fever.
One of the best things you can do to cure cabin fever is to bundle up and go for a nature walk. No matter where you are in the state, you'll have some place close to you for a peaceful nature retreat. Even if you live in an urban area, visit a city park, like Cherokee Park in Louisville.
Dive even deeper into nature by visiting the Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest. Climb to the top of Natural Bridge and take in the views of the bare trees in the surrounding valley.
The Ohio River borders the northern part of our state before connecting with the Mississippi River. Taking a hike along this impressive body of water is sure to make you feel refreshed.
Be blown away by the sheer size and beauty of Cumberland Falls. It is a gorgeous sight just after a snow fall, but it looks especially brilliant if it's cold enough for bits of it to freeze.
Remind yourself of summer by visiting these two huge lakes in western Kentucky. Warm up by going on a hike in the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, or admire the vastness of the frosty lakes.
There are still a ton of magical Christmas lights displays all over the state, like this one in Ashland's Winter Wonderland of Lights. Most of the displays stay up until New Year's Eve, and in some cases, into the first couple weeks of January. Along with exercise, socializing can help get rid of your cabin fever. If you're near Louisville, grab a friend and walk across the Big Four Bridge to Jeffersonville, Indiana. Enjoy the views of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline, and then stop for a burger at the Red Yeti on the Indiana side.
What better way to warm yourself up than with bourbon? Escape the cold and your house by traveling to one of the distilleries along Kentucky's Bourbon Trail, such as Buffalo Trace, which is pictured above.
Kentucky boasts a lot of museums that cover a wide range of interests. Stay warm and wear yourself out by spending the day touring your favorite one. The Corvette Museum in Bowling Green is home to several rare and one-of-kind cars.
Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in Kentucky when covered in a blanket of snow. With hiking trails, tours, and educational demonstrations and activities, this place is sure to scratch your itch to get exercise, socialize, and use your brain.
Is there any other food you can think of that reminds you of summer more than barbecue? Experience a brief refuge from Old Man Winter at any of the delicious barbecue restaurants in Kentucky, like Moonlite Barbecue in Owensboro.
If none of these places sound appealing, but you still want to get out of the house, why not just go on a drive on a gorgeous country road or one of Kentucky's scenic byways. You get to enjoy the winter scenery while staying warm and listening to music, and still getting out and about.
