Whether or not you believe in ghosts, most would agree that these creepy tales can be fascinating. The Bluegrass State is filled with scary stories and places where ghosts are said to hang out. These haunted places in Kentucky vary from historic cemeteries to urban legends and everything in between. The first three stops on this road trip are around Louisville; then we'll head south to Bardstown, and then Perryville. Feel free to rearrange it however you like!
Tucked in between historic homes and beautiful trees is a tree that definitely stands out from the rest. This site and peculiar-looking tree date back to the 1800s when witches supposedly gathered here. The legend says that these witches sent a tornado to destroy the town after their beloved tree was cut down. A new tree was planted and given that it looks like this, the story may just be true. This beautiful, historic place is the final resting place of many notable Kentuckians. The combination of history and decaying statues give the cemetery a bit of a creepy vibe, while also being one of Louisville's most beautiful places. Dating back to the 1700s, the oldest hotel in the state is still a hotel, as well as a restaurant and bar. There are countless ghost stories that will send a shiver down your spine and may just make a believer out of you. Wrap up your creepy day trip by heading southeast to the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site.
This field was home to the bloodiest Civil War battle in Kentucky where more than 7,600 soldiers were killed, wounded, or went missing. Many believe that this field and the entire town of Perryville are filled with the ghosts of these soldiers who have never left.
