Weird Laws in Kentucky
Why are there so many weird laws in Kentucky?
Kentucky is not the only state with a bunch of weird laws; all throughout the country, states have their own bizarre rules and regulations! Throughout its history, officials in the Kentucky state legislature and at local county levels have passed a long list of laws and regulations. While they surely had the best of intentions when the laws were drawn up, the times and society have changed... even though some of the laws did not. Whether the laws were kept on the books for good reason or were merely forgotten about, no one really knows for sure. But what we do know, is that laws and legal processes take a lot of time, energy, and resources to draft, vote on, put into place, and enforce. It's a very long process that really, no one has time for! So that's why many of these weird laws stick around, and aren't generally enforced.
What are some weird facts about Kentucky?
Kentucky has some fun facts sure to dazzle and delight guests at your next soiree; for instance, did you know Duncan Hines was a real person, and he hailed from Kentucky? That's right -- today’s boxed confectionaries started as a real person in Bowling Green. These delicious baked goods are something that we can be real proud of; so much so, in fact, that we have an entire museum exhibit devoted to the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Duncan Hines himself! Another fun one: when sworn into office, the Kentucky Governor must swear that he or she has never fought a duel with a deadly weapon. It’s comforting to know that our governor has not fought a duel with a deadly weapon. At least not yet!
What are some weird things people in Kentucky do?
If the above laws are any indication, Kentuckians are a weird bunch, and we have some traditions and quirks that seem, well, weird, to the rest of the country! A fews things: when you go out to dinner, you'll probably notice that all of our items are neatly separated on the plate; or, better yet, in their very own containers. Apparently we didn't get past the preschooler predilection of having all of our foods separated on our plates... but really, why mix together what's perfectly good on its own? Another thing you will see when dining with a Kentuckian is them slowly, thoughtfully, sipping their bourbon, almost as if it's a fine wine. We are very, very particular about our bourbon -- and we like to enjoy it! And really, what's weird about that?
