I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
There’s something about Kentucky corn fields and woodlands at night that can be spooky during the Halloween season. Just hearing a rustling in the leaves of the corn can give those of us who grew up watching Children of the Corn, a little shiver. Each one of these All Hallows attractions offers something unique. Some are meant to make teens and young adults tremble, others have special attractions for the little ones. They all offer a frighteningly good time.
Here are 10 spooky corn maze activities in Kentucky:
This historical corn maze is located at 9863 Lexington Road in Lancaster. The Meadow Lake Equestrian Center uses its 135 acre farm to recreate civil war re-enactments all through October, including actual trails used by the soldiers and the Underground Railroad.
This family fun corn maze is located at 9255 US Hwy 431 in Utica. Each year this field of fright opens early, around September 12th and provides acres maze like confusion till November 7th. They offer a pumpkin patch, gokart "type" rides, and "to die for" fresh produce, fruit, and baked goods.
Though not a corn maze, the Jenny Wiley State Park Campground at Dewey Lake in Prestonburg transforms a few weekends in October. On those days it becomes a creepy camp filled with zombies and other frights waiting to scare the bejeesus out of visitors. The Auxier Volunteer Fire Department runs this haunted hayride and trail event each year, but the ride is not recommended for children 6 or under. There will be other fun activities for the little ones.
This unique attraction on 4172 Belleview Road in Petersburg is very family friendly, offering a hayride through a corn maze of creepiness, along with a haunted barn. The frightening folds at Sandyland like to make you scream, while maintaining a family friendly environment.
All kids like the unique, pirate themed corn maze is located at the Thomas Dairy Farm and Market on 726 Cecilia Mill Road in Cecilia. Visitors can enjoy the petting zoo, pumpkin picking patch, and then help the Captain find his lost mate in a gigantic corn maze. Those wanting even more can join in the zombie paintball hunt and other fun family activities.
This family fun farm on Tadpole Lane in Union offers a traditional hayride and corn maze to create family fun for any age. Even the cows are friendly and will walk up to be fed while the wagon rattles along the trail on the hayride.
This unique attraction offers fright enthusiasts a choice of 4 different themed attractions, or all for one low price of $30. The event is located at 48 Lockets Dream, Hwy 234 in Settle. They have a haunted hayride, creepy haunted house of dolls, 3d adventure, and a forest trail of terror, which is similar to a corn maze. Skeleton’s Lair offers plenty of screams and shivers for the night.
There's plenty of family fun to be had at 715 E. Broadway Street in Mayfield. Patrons can enjoy a petting zoo, pumpkin patch, and Kentucky’s largest corn maze.
This family Halloween fun place is located at 623 Talmage Mayo Road in Harrodsburg. It offers lots of different activities such as a petting zoo, pumpkin picking patch, zip line racing, and the maze in order to entertain both the young and the older family members.
Those looking for a night of fright will not want to miss the acres of anarchy at 132 Darnell Avenue in Brandenburg. Every year the designers change the maze, so no one knows what to expect. Visitors can also go on a hayride, visit a haunted barn, and play Halloween laser tag. This local haunt offers plenty of fun for the whole family.
Corn fields in Kentucky always give me the creeps at night. A raccoon bristling in the field can easily give many a fright.
