Although not official, Kentucky could easily be called the “Festival Capital of the World.” We love to celebrate in the Bluegrass State, and this is especially true during the holiday season. There are many traditions in Kentucky this time of year, and one particular festival in Owensboro has been a favorite for decades. Located inside the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, the Holiday Forest Festival of the Trees is in full “bloom” now through the end of the year and this stunning Kentucky tradition is one of the most beautiful in the state.
Owensboro is a fun-filled city in western Kentucky that has a little bit of everything for both locals and visitors. In fact, we shared why it makes one of the best weekend getaway spots in a previous article here.
During the holiday season, all of Owensboro comes to life, but one of the most stunning traditions can be found inside the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art. As the second largest art museum in Kentucky, this cultural destination is always a unique place to visit, but it's particularly special this time of year.

The 42nd annual Holiday Forest Festival of Trees is now in place at the museum and the space is decked out with 18 monumental Christmas trees.
These trees are decorated by local artists, florists, and organizations. The theme of the decor is different each year and the trees in these photos are from previous events, but you can expect to see similarly incredible decor when you visit this season.
For this year, the trees reflect the current exhibition, A Celebration Of Bluegrass Music, which is at the museum through February 7, 2019. The Festival of Trees runs through December 31 and highlights the collection of art that represents this genre of American music.
If you do happen to visit within the next week or so, stop by the Art Market for last-minute gifts. Do keep in mind that the museum is open year round with a distinct variety of regular exhibits and fascinating visiting ones, so this spot is a must-see, even if you can’t make it to the festival.
The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art continues to bring artistic flair and cultural education to western Kentucky and is just one more reason to visit this exciting city.
The museum truly shines during the holidays with its Festival of Trees, and if you haven't taken part in this Kentucky tradition before, keep it in mind for the years to come.
