When we think of rich and famous celebrities we often think of them as having been born and raised in Hollywood or perhaps the artsy city of New York. However, some of the biggest stars in music and movies have come from charming small towns in Kentucky, and our state is proud of its shining stars that came from humble roots. Here are some of the most famous people from Kentucky:
Much of Augusta hasn’t changed much from when George Clooney grew up here as it’s known as being a small town where time seems to stand still. He and the town he was raised in seem to be timeless.
While Owensboro is no longer the small town it once was, like Johnny Depp, it grew from humble beginnings and grew to gain great stature and has a lot of wonderful endearing qualities.
Flatwoods seems to be a place of multiple legends. The country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus, and a local urban legend of the “Flatwoods Monster”. It also happens to be a beautiful small Kentucky town.
The biggest name in country music came from what’s most likely the smallest town in Kentucky. The “Coal Miner’s Daughter” was born in this very house. Since this place is rather remote, if you want to visit, we’d suggest booking a room in nearby Paintsville, where Loretta’s sister Crystal Gayle was born.
It’s no surprise that yet another great country musician would come from Kentucky, but when this state does something well, it’s usually the best of the best. Pikeville may be a tiny, gorgeous town, but it is also strong. It literally moved mountains to survive.
