Local breweries are popping up all over Kentucky, so when you’re looking to try something different, it better have a unique quality that makes it stand out. It always makes for an interesting concept when a modern business takes over a historic building, and that is exactly the case with 3rd Turn Brewing. Located in Louisville, inside a 19th-century church, it may not look like much from the outside, but just wait until you walk through that front door.
Located in the Jeffersontown area of Louisville, 3rd Turn Brewing took over this former church in 2015.
The church was built in 1878 and has been lovingly restored and transformed into a cool gathering place for thirsty locals and visitors. The exterior may not seem that overwhelming, but as the saying goes, it's what's on the inside that counts.
The interior of 3rd Turn is stunning, inviting and the perfect blend of modern and historically accurate.
It has a rustic feel with exposed brick and lots of warm woods, and the twinkling lights add a serene glow day and night. While you'll love the modern wooden and metal tables and leather couches, be sure to notice the original aspects like the beautiful stained glass windows.
There are plenty of tables within the cozy space, also with twinkling lights for ambiance, and they've recently added murals to the exterior walls, giving it even more character and appeal.
As a small brewery and community taproom, there is something for everyone at 3rd Turn Brewing.
They have 20 taps featuring a number of their own beers, along with many regional and local brews that rotate on a weekly basis. They will be the first to tell you that they make beer, not food, but you are welcome to bring in your own snacks or meal. They also have several menus available for local restaurants that will deliver, and you can often find a food truck parked outside.
3rd Turn Brewing has quickly become a favorite watering hole in Louisville, and really in all of Kentucky.
Although popular, it never seems overly crowded, so you'll feel like you've stumbled upon a gem of a brewery, hidden inside an old church. And that's exactly what will happen when you pay 3rd Turn Brewing a visit.
