We’re lucky to have so much scrumptious food in Kentucky! (It’s almost as good as our bourbon.) While we have all sorts of delicious BBQ and down-home Southern food, sometimes it’s nice to splurge a little and get a taste of fine dining. A new restaurant has opened up in Lexington that is getting rave reviews and the place and the menu look as wonderful as the food tastes. Welcome to Granddam in Kentucky.
The husband and wife team of executive chefs Karl and Paula Lowe have taken Appalachian cuisine and kicked it into the stratosphere with a menu that takes rustic comfort food and turns it into flavorful upscale culinary artisanship.
Named after a matriarchal racehorse, Granddam lets you know you’re in for a special treat as soon as you walk in the door. The beautifully appointed decor offers hints of rustic charm in a sea of modern tastefulness.
The lounge brings a sense of comfort and elegance where you can truly relax and enjoy a tableside julep or other artfully crafted cocktails, including alcohol-free Temperates that are just as tasty and creative.
Start off your meal with a savory appetizer like this Black-Eyed Pea Hummus with wood-fired carrots, roasted pistachios, and sunflower oil. Others include Pork Belly & Weisenberger Grits, Hog & Hominy, and Grilled Oysters.
Seafood lovers should try the delectable Papillote Walleye on a banana leaf cooked over a wood fire with a pine cone glaze, wheat berry & dry cherry salad, and crispy skin.
The menu is surprisingly vast and varied, especially for such an upscale restaurant. Granddam is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner so you can enjoy this decadence any time of day or night.
Were you one of the first to get a taste of Granddam in Kentucky? Let us know how it was in the comments. While you’re visiting Lexington, be sure to find out all about its history.
