Kentucky is made up of acre upon acre of farmland, much of which has been an agricultural resource for decades. Our local farms and the families who run them are the backbone of our state, and many of these properties now open up their gates so the public can learn about and appreciate their hard work. Boone County in northern Kentucky has many of these farms, and on June 22, 2019, several of them are participating in a fun-filled farm tour. This free, self-guided event takes you to a variety of places and it’s packed with fun for the whole family.
Boone County in northern Kentucky is made up of many suburban areas with vast neighborhoods, a mall, and even the famous "Florence Y'all" water tower, but it is also home to many long-running family farms.
The rural areas of the county are filled with farmland, much of which has been around for generations. On June 22nd, the Boone County Farm Tour will celebrate these hard-working families and what they do for our state.
The self-guided tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and you can decide which of the nine destinations you'd like to visit.
It will be difficult to make it to all of the farms on the list, so take a look ahead of time and pick a few that interest you. One that's great for the kids is Kinman Farms, shown above, where you can take a hayride, feed the animals, and even pick up a bite to eat at the concession stand.

Another good spot for animal lovers is Eagle Bend Alpacas.
Eagle Bend is a 52-acre farm that’s home to the largest alpaca herd in Kentucky, as well as sheep and chickens. Check out their fiber and gift shop while you're there.

For the history buffs, definitely make time to visit Dinsmore Homestead.
Dating back to 1839, this property has been amazingly preserved and you can visit its historic outbuildings and even the family graveyard. Learn how farming has changed over the years at this unique farm tour stop.
If you're interested in gardening, this is an ideal stop. They do so much with their land and you'll often find their produce at farmer’s markets in the area.
McGlasson Farms, also located along the Ohio River, is another family-owned farm that's been around for generations.
Here, you can pick up fresh produce and learn about how they make syrup and apple cider. This is a wonderful place to visit throughout the summer and fall if you can't make it here during the Farm Tour.
What Kentucky farm tour would be complete without horses? Be sure to stop by Little Britain Stables, shown below, or one of the other two horse farms on the tour.
Double H Ranch and Johnny Walker Stables are also participating in the Boone County Farm Tour and each one has its own special features. You can learn more about what each farm offers on June 22nd here.
The tour wraps up at 3 p.m., but we suggest heading to the Boone County Farmer's Market for a little more fun.
There will be free food, inflatables for the kids, live music, and vendors selling farm-fresh items.
The Boone County Farm Tour in Kentucky is a fun-filled family event that will delight both locals and visitors looking for an excellent day trip adventure.
