We all know the weather is hot during the summer in Kentucky, but it can actually be warm through much of spring and well into fall. Thankfully there are places throughout the Bluegrass State that allow you to cool off, even if most of the summertime attractions have closed. Lexington is one of the biggest cities in our state, but has such a charming, small town feel. It also has an impressive collection of parks that offer fun for the whole family. Four of these parks have splash pads that are typically open from the end of April through the beginning of October. Lexington is a beautiful Kentucky city where you can participate in a number of outdoor activities.
It actually has a very impressive collection of city parks which offer hiking trails, horse back riding, swimming pools, activities, and splash pads that are perfect for those hot days.
The pools and splash pads within the parks are great resources for locals on a hot summer day.
There is an admission charge for the pools and they are open typical, seasonal hours. However, the spraygrounds are free and are open longer, typically ready to go by late April.

Two of the spraygrounds, located at Castlewood and Douglass Parks, are adjacent to the pools, but are still free to use.
You can spend your day cooling off on the splash pad and then enjoy a picnic nearby. Or of course you can also choose to visit the pool for a small fee.

Masterson Station Park is just as fun and also has a lot to offer visitors.
