I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
If the only Kentucky French fries you have enjoyed came from McDonalds, you don’t know what you are missing. Everyone should enjoy a plate of mouthwatering French fries at least once in their life time. There is so much more to these crispy slivers of fried potato goodness than the golden arches. As a matter of fact, all your basic fast food restaurants should just be excluded from the “good fry” category. When it comes to real French fried potatoes, the Bluegrass State has some real delicacies you won’t soon forget.
Here are 13 restaurants in Kentucky that have out of this world French fries:
This restaurant at 952 Red House Road in Richmond is a delightful little family owned business with great service, and food at an affordable price. You cannot go wrong with their flavorful fries accompanied by cooked to order burgers or breakfasts.
This classy café at 2144 Frankfort Avenue in Louisville offers a unique version of fries, the Belgium Pomme Frites. They come with not one, but three delicious dipping sauces. Common Ketchup is not one of them unless requested.
This popular dining spot at 3292 Richmond Road in Lexington is one of the best places you can go for BBQ, but their fries need recognition as well. Plain fries are crisp, yet tender and make a great companion for any barbecue plate. Their cheese fries however, are just to die for, but unfortunately were not pictured on the site.
Craving fries? You will want to ride out to125 E Dixie Avenue in Elizabethtown when possible. The Cobbler has the absolute best home style fries you will find in the area. Try a heaping serving of fries and some of their fresh fruit cobbler for a winning combination. The service is always impeccable and the food is extremely fresh.
The absolute best burger and fry combination can be found at W Lexington Avenue in Winchester. Everything is cooked to specification when you dine at the Engine House. You will find no wilted veges either, as vegetation is fresh, fries are crisp with soft innards and the burgers are mouthwatering.
This fantastic restaurant at 921 Swan Street has been recognized for their work with bacon, but the same recognition should b given to their Duck fat fries, the Truffle and their Grippo Fries. Each one has a unique flavor that really stands out. No ketchup required, but unfortunately I couldn’t find an image of their fries.
If you are fond of mouthwatering BBQ and fantastic fries, you will want to visit 338 Washington Street in Owensboro. The fries are not greasy or overdone. They have mastered the art of barbecue meat in all genres, and French fries… which are especially tasty when dipped in one of their mouthwatering barbecue sauces.
This fantastic pub is located at 601 Main Street in Covington. The fish and chips (fries) is the best you’ll find in the area, and possibly a few other counties. One patron enjoyed the classic dish in London and actually preferred this Covington establishment’s version. The fish and chips are their specialty and it lives up to the greatest of expectations. The spiced fries are fantastic, but the classic fries are delicious too.
This delightful pub at 11507 Park Road in Anchorage offers some truly unique fries and dipping sauce to boot. If you ever visit this "roost", you will want to dine on their sweet potato fries with marshmallow dip. This is a unique flavor that will be reminiscent of holiday sweet potato casserole.
This unique restaurant at 760 Campbell Lane in Bowling Green offers all gluten free food. Not only do they promote good health and gluten free living, they have melt in your mouth sweet potato fries and light, crispy white potato fries.
When it comes to tacos or fries, this diner at 938 Baxter Avenue is a local favorite. They have what is known as Mole Fries, which as you can see by the picture are completely amazing.
This restaurant at 606 S Broadway in Lexington has been fixing up deep fried goodness since 1971. All of their food is delicious and worth the visit, but the cheese fries, chili cheese fries and regular fries are all amazing.
Located at 207 S Main in Corbin is a place you wouldn’t expect to have the area’s greatest fries… but it does. Their light, crispy Pub Frites are served with a choice of dipping sauces that include ketchup, garlic aioli, sweet chili sauce or habanera ketchup. They also have some melt in your mouth loaded fries that they alter seasonally, such as the ones shown in the image. This is the go to place for burgers and fries in Corbin… not to mention a fabulous selection of Craft Beer.
Each one of these starchy delights in Kentucky offers diners a culinary delight that reaches senses most fried potatoes cannot touch. The variety of spices, techniques, toppings and dips in these establishments go beyond the average and create mouthwatering French fries. We have a fondness for chili cheese fries in our house.
