The best kind of restaurants in Kentucky are those family-owned, small-town eateries that serve home cooked food with plenty of southern charm. Luckily, these restaurants are scattered all across our great state, so whenever you want a taste of home, but don’t feel like cooking, it’s probably not a far drive to reach one of these gems.
However, we recently discovered a countryside restaurant in the tiny town of Stanford that has everything you could want in a charming, family restaurant. The Kentucky Depot may be out in the middle of nowhere for most, but it has the best doggone food you’ve tried in ages and is definitely worth a visit.
Kentucky Depot Restaurant is located in the timeless town of Stanford, which is right in the center of our state.
It's exactly what you'd expect in a country restaurant but even exceeds those expectations with fabulous southern favorites on the menu and customer service that can't be beaten.
For a small town country restaurant, it is actually quite large. The interior has a relaxed, welcoming feel and you'll be invited in with a smile when you arrive.
There are multiple dining areas within the restaurant; it's perfect for a solo meal or when dining with a large group. There is also a shop of sorts near the front with decorative and country-themed items.

Eating at the Kentucky Depot is always like dining with family, whether you bring your own or not.
The staff has stayed pretty consistent over the years and the locals head here when they want a good, home cooked meal and plenty of southern hospitality.
The hot bar is a great deal (although their entire menu is wallet-friendly) and gives you a sampling of all the deliciousness they offer.
But you absolutely must save room for dessert. A visit to a country restaurant is best finished with a slice of pie and the Kentucky Depot does them right.
The Brown Sugar Pie is a favorite but also look for Pecan, Strawberry Rhubarb, and a number of other sweet treats.
The Kentucky Depot Restaurant may be well known to those local to Stanford, but for everyone else, it's worth a drive through the country to reach this dining destination.
The food will be the best you've tried in a while, and you'll leave with the same smile that greeted you at the front door.
The Kentucky Depot is filled with southern hospitality, a comfortable atmosphere, and delicious homemade food. It basically has the trifecta when it comes to incredible restaurants in the Bluegrass.
