Many small-town diners have come and gone over the years, and for those that have closed, we are left to reminisce about their one-of-a-kind environments and delicious homemade food. However, there are some that are hanging on and continue to treat locals and visitors to their smiles and scratch-made food. Rudy’s on the Square in Murray briefly closed awhile back, but it is open again and some would argue it is better than ever. Not only has it maintained plenty of charm and its southern classics menu, this historic Kentucky diner serves the best biscuits and gravy on the planet and it’s definitely worthy of a visit.
Way back in 1940, Rudy's on the Square first opened its doors in February in the Western Kentucky town of Murray. It's now under new management and locals are raving about this small town diner.
The history of Rudy's has thankfully been captured in photos, and these photos are hung on the walls of the current restaurant. You can easily tell that Rudy's on the Square was a popular gathering spot in the town, and everyone loved the food. Now that Rudy's is continuing its tradition, albeit, in a more modern environment, it's clear this diner is once again the go-to spot in Murray.

The interior of Rudy's received a facelift and now includes new, bright red booths and a number of tables for the crowd that you'll often find inside the diner.
It's the food they're all after, of course, but it's also the atmosphere. Rudy's is still a classic diner where you're welcomed like family and the homemade food is to die for. One of the most popular things on the menu - and something you absolutely must try - is the biscuits and gravy. Made from scratch, this savory classic ranks up there with the best of the best, along with the rest of their morning offerings.
You'll also find a number of sandwiches, entrees, salads, and more, and always ask about the specials. You'll usually find a number of southern favorites - all made the right way - such as catfish, fried chicken, and country ham.
Dessert is a can't miss course that is extra special at Rudy's. Try the piled high pies or banana pudding for a sweet treat. All of the food is made with love and served with a smile, which just ensures the longevity of this beloved diner.
Rudy's on the Square could boast all it wants about its stellar biscuits and gravy, mouthwatering lunch and dinner creations, and years in business, but instead, they continue to humbly serve the Murray community and those passing by. It's the hard work and passion of this little diner that has given it new life, and that's why Kentucky has fallen in love with this historic restaurant all over again.
Rudy’s on the Square is in the heart of the lovely small town of Murray, and it’s poised to continue serving up mouthwatering biscuits and gravy, as well as other southern favorites, for generations to come.
