Choosing a restaurant is not always just about the food, but also the experience. Kentucky has many dining destinations that offer incredible meals and equally incredible stories to go along with them. Located in the riverfront town of Augusta, Beehive Tavern reopened just a few months ago and has been delighting its many guests ever since. This historic tavern first opened in the 1700s and is now an ultimate dining experience and one of the best restaurants in Kentucky.
Beehive Augusta Tavern is located on historic Riverside Drive, right across the street from the Ohio River. This site, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was first built in 1796 on land given to a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
The building has endured a lot over the past two centuries, including its fair share of flooding. The photo below shows the side of the structure during high waters in 1885.
The building has lived several lives, including that of a private residence, a general store, a pharmacy, and offices for the nearby ferry (which you can still ride). Most recently, it was a popular, award-winning restaurant that was loved by the town for more than 25 years.
Beehive Tavern opened in the 1980s and was a perfectly charming place to dine in the historic town of Augusta. It was popular with both locals and visitors, so it's easy to see why so many were excited to hear that it would reopen after its most recent closure.
Beehive Augusta Tavern opened again this past December with new owners, a new menu, and a total renovation. While it may have a new vibe than the previous Beehive, it still honors the building's history while also welcoming in a modern, inviting atmosphere.
Guests have been flocking to Beehive Tavern to try the new menus and experience the updated environment for themselves. The restaurant serves lunch, dinner, and a Sunday brunch, all of which focus on farm-to-table dishes.
Choose from classic meals prepared with plenty of fresh flavors. Burgers, steaks, pork, pasta, seafood, and much more can be found on the mouthwatering menus.
Beehive Augusta Tavern pays a loving nod to the history of this building, the town, and its fascinating riverside past. It's a wonderful Kentucky dining experience, and from the moment you walk in the door, it's easy to see what all the "buzz" is about.
Beehive Augusta Tavern has long been a favorite destination in this riverfront town, and now that it has been given yet another new life, it’s positioned itself as one of the best restaurants in Kentucky.
