Eagle Watch Weekends Show You The Majestic Bald Eagle In Kentucky

Kentucky is a scenic state, whether you’re driving through the city lights or strolling on a trail in the middle of the woods. Kentucky State Parks offer a number of different tours throughout the year, and in the early winter months of 2020, three parks will bring back their Eagle Watch Weekends. These weekends will teach you about the majestic bald eagle, as well as take you aboard a yacht on Kentucky Lake in search of eagles who have nested in the area for the winter.

Passengers will board the CQ Princess Yacht on Kentucky Lake, and enjoy a unique experience cruising around our state's largest body of water. For each weekend, tours are offered Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning.

Three parks near Kentucky Lake will take part in the Eagle Watch Weekends this year. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park will host the event January 12-13, 2019, Lake Barkley State Resort Park will host January 24-26, 2020, and Kenlake State Resort Park will welcome guests January 31st through February 2, 2020.

The weekend is all about the beautiful bald eagle, and you'll learn how this animal made its way back to Kentucky. It was just in the early 1980s when the bald eagle was purposefully reintroduced to our landscape and now there are have been over 100 eagles spotted in the area during the winter months.

During the tour, you'll be sheltered from the cold aboard the yacht, but will still have plenty of opportunities to see the eagles in action. With some luck, you'll see a variety of activity, from nesting in the trees to swooping down to the lake to catch dinner.

Since there are events offered throughout the weekend, definitely consider staying the night at the state resort park. Each park has a lovely lodge, cozy cabins, and a restaurant to keep you well fed.

These parks along the lakes are worthy of a visit on their own, and these eagle watch tours make them even more of a nature lover's destination. Definitely go for the tour, but make time to explore the natural beauty of the park itself.
