Kentucky is a great state to experience the outdoors, both for relaxing and for getting your adrenaline pumping. Of course, not everyone in our state is an expert hiker, but we have so many trails to choose from that anyone who wants to get some fresh air can find the ideal spot. One place many head to is Red River Gorge and the Auxier Ridge Trail. Although rated moderately difficult, this path follows a ridge line that will keep your blood pumping, and this heart-stopping hike in Kentucky really is one that everyone should experience.

Located within the Daniel Boone National Forest and Red River Gorge, the Auxier Ridge Trail is one of the most beautiful places in our state. If you take the trail out and back, it totals about four miles, but as you can see from the map below, you can choose to connect it with a number of other trails to create your own adventure.

The trail itself is known for the views, and they are magnificent. But with the clifftop vistas, come nerve-racking moments as you walk along the edge.
Along with the ridge line portions of the trail, the rest is filled with beautiful landscape and rock formations that are lovely all year long.

As long as you're careful, this is a safe trail that for hikers to enjoy. It may not be best suited for small children, and it is not handicapped accessible, so keep these things in mind before you venture out.
The perspective you gain as you walk along the Auxier Ridge is an unforgettable Kentucky experience. Many call this the best trail in the state, and it's easy to see why.
