I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Kentucky is filled with beautiful nature spots that are brimming with life and quite a few nice parks. Each park or woodland area has its own special highlights. However, when it comes to favored spots in the Bluegrass State, the Red River Gorge, which is part of the Daniel Boone National Forest, is one AMAZING State Park to visit. One entrance is located at 2135 Natural Bridge Road in Slade, but it spreads out to Stanton also. This park is vast, and there is so much to see and do within its borders. You could easily spend weeks on the acreage without succumbing boredom.
The Gorge is truly part of an amazing state park to visit in Kentucky:
Daniel Boone State Park is beautiful in itself, but the Gorge is a favored spot that locals visit. It has every gorgeous aspect of nature wrapped neatly into one vast area.
Rock climbing at Roadside Crag is a favorite activity by some who visit specific parts of this beautifully rugged terrain. The large rock faces are perfect for those skilled in climbing. The larger rock faces wouldn’t be advised for amateurs.
Canoeing is absolutely perfect in a number of spots here, including the calm, serene waters of Indian Creek. There are other spots where one can enjoy the excitement of the rapids if looking for more of a challenge.
Biking is another popular activity for spots around Red River Gorge. Bikers can stick with the paved area, or enjoy some of the rugged woodland trails.
The hiking or trail walks anywhere at the Gorge will open your eyes to some of the most breathtaking nature spectacles ever imagined. There are plenty of lookouts, natural arches and spots that provide a glorious view.
Unique arches and bridges are scattered around various parts of the park in its entirety. Many are 100% natural and massive in size, providing an amazing view. Others allow for a shady resting spot.
Overall, the Red River Gorge is a magical place, filled with serenity, nature and all the tranquility you can handle from sunrise to sunset. It is a place where Mother Nature rules with dignity, allowing us a glimpse of her beauty as she embraces us a short while.
When it comes to an amazing state park, the Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest is one place you need to visit. It is a favorite place to visit for campers, hikers and nature lovers all across the state. There are other beautiful state parks one can visit, but the Gorge is truly a magical, special place. You will not want to forget your camera either. This is just one writer’s opinion of an amazing nature escape. What is your favorite state park to visit in Kentucky?
